GHS School Pictures & Retake Info

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
School pictures have been sorted and delivered to all English teachers. Your child should receive his/her picture package or a proof sheet tomorrow during English class. Here are a few points you need to know:

  1. Everyone who posed on School Picture Day will receive a picture package that a parent / guardian ordered or a proof sheet with information about ordering in English class tomorrow. Any student who does not have an English class will receive the package delivered to one of his/her classes tomorrow.

  2. Any student who was not here on School Picture day in August will pose during Retake Day on Oct. 11, regardless of whether parents want to order picture packages. These photos are used for administrative purposes. If parents want to order photos, though, they can use this form:  img-805071529-0001-Copy.pdf_page_1.jpg  (Disregard the date. Retakes are the same price so you can use the original Picture Day form.)

  3. Students who do not like their picture packages can pose for Retakes on Oct. 11 during English class. They must return their entire picture package to pose for Retakes. They do not need to complete new forms for their replacement photo packages.

  4. Students who do not like their proofs do NOT have the option to pose for retakes unless they want to order picture packages. They can use the attached order form or pick up an order form in the main office. Use this form:  img-805071529-0001-Copy.pdf_page_1.jpg (Disregard the date. Retakes are the same price so you can use the original Picture Day form.)

  5. Seniors can order these photos for personal use, but the special photos taken during the summer and in August will be the ones used in the yearbook. use this form:  img-805071529-0001-Copy.pdf_page_1.jpg (Disregard the date. Retakes are the same price so you can use the original Picture Day form.)

Student Drop Off/Pick Up Route

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
Attention parents/guardians who drop off or pick up your child at GHS:

We ask our students to get picked up/dropped off on the east side (red arrow).  Please follow the route listed below both in the morning and in the afternoon.  This route will help ensure safety and improve the traffic flow without creating congestion at the "T" in front of the school.  We recognize how busy all of you are, but this route below will help the traffic flow and help create a safe parking lot environment for all.

Class of 2020 - Senior Picture Information

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
Dear Parents of Current GHS Juniors,

The 2018-2019 school year is drawing to a close, and I'm sure you cannot believe your child will soon be a senior. One item that needs to be on your To Do list right now is your child's senior picture.

If this is your first GHS senior, you probably have no idea how senior pictures work. Basically, you can go anywhere to get your child's senior pictures taken for photos you distribute to friends and family, BUT, your child must pose for his/her yearbook senior picture through Prestige Portraits this summerYou cannot provide a photo taken by somebody else for the yearbook because of specific digital imaging required for yearbook printing.

To make senior pictures easy for you and your family, Prestige will set up a full studio at GHS in the library this summer with lots of background choices and props on June 12 and June 13. You will receive proofs from Prestige so you can choose your yearbook photo and purchase photos if you'd like for family and friends. There is no obligation to buy photos, though.

Prestige Portraits will send you a postcard within the next few weeks that gives you a specific date and time for the senior picture. All appointments will take place on June 12 and June 13 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. If you have a conflict with the date and time assigned, you will contact Prestige to change your appointment using information on that postcard. Prestige can set up full appointments at their studio on the north side of Indianapolis throughout the summer, too, if you'd rather drive to the studio. The key is that you get those photos taken before school starts.

I'm providing you with this information in April so you can keep these dates  -- June 12 and June 13 -- free on your calendars.

If you have questions for Prestige about your appointments or senior pictures in general, you can contact Christine Williams at 317/829.2073 Continue reading

Schedule Change

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
PowerHour remains a time where students can take more ownership of their education, work to improve themselves academically, and get more involved and connected with their school community.  We continue to look at ways to make this privilege more effective for all of our students.  Thus, we are making slight changes to the daily schedule to help students improve academically, get to the necessary PowerHours, increase the motivation to work and the ability to get help from staff, and thus increase the number of students meeting classroom expectations making them on track for graduation!  Class meetings have been held regarding these changes and announcements will continue once school resumes to remind students of schedule changes.  Please see the schedule changes for more information. Posted by on in Greenwood High School News

Tomorrow is School Picture Retake Day, and students who need to pose for retakes will do so during their English classes. All students who were absent on Aug. 8 when everyone went to the gym to pose for school pictures must pose next Tuesday for administrative reasons – even if they do not want to buy school pictures. This includes all seniors who were absent on the school-wide picture day; this picture is for their school IDs and transcripts. Students who purchased picture packages but did not like their pictures should pose, and they must return their original picture packages to the photographer at that time. Picture packages do not include the proof sheets all non-purchasers received. Extra order forms for school pictures are available in the front office and have been emailed to all parents.

Use the attached order form even though it is dated Aug. 8. Prices have not changed. Continue reading

Win Taylor Swift Tickets

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
GHS Students: What are you doing on Sept. 15? Would you like to win two free tickets plus t-shirts to Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour concert at Lucas Oil Stadium? The yearbook staff has two tickets to the concert from the concert promoter but would love to give them to you. Here’s how you can win these two tickets: First, you have to buy a yearbook by Sept. 4 to be eligible. Extra forms are available online, in the front office, and in Room K105. Secondly, you need to create a lipsync video to 30 seconds of one of Taylor’s songs. You can include as many of your friends as you want, but the prize is only two tickets. All videos can be emailed to droberts@gws.k12.in.us or dropped off at Room K105. Ensure you include your name and the name of the person you intend to take to the concert with you if you win. Submitting an entry gives permission for the yearbook staff and Taylor Swift promoters to use your video lipsync in promotional materials. Continue reading

Welcome From Our Student Services Advisor!

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
Welcome, Freshmen! How exciting is it to be attending high school? You must be experiencing a lot of different emotions right now. No worries, these feelings are normal as you head into your new adventure as a high school student. Things to remember: be on time, be prepared, and be respectful. Be on time to school and each class. You have approximately 5 mins between each class once the bell rings. That’s plenty of time to get to and from each classroom. Will there be challenges? Sure, you’re still learning where classes are, which hallway to travel, and which set of stairs will get you there so you’re not late. Take the first few days of school to learn your way around. GHS is pretty simple to travel. Think about it this way: all English classes are in the same hall. All science is in the same area. If you know how to get to those hallways that’s half the battle! Being prepared for those classes is also very important. Over the first week of school teachers will go over what is needed, (i.e. pencils, binder requirements, spiral notebooks vs loose leaf paper, etc.). Pay attention and write down what is expected of you to be prepared for each of your classes. Respect is a two-way street. If you don’t give it, how do you expect to get it in return? Exactly! You don’t. So, please, think before you speak or act. Everyone deserves respect.

I am so excited to meet you this year and help you along your journey as a Freshman. If you need anything, I am located in the Guidance Office. Parents, my door is open to you, also. If you have any concerns or questions, please let me know. –Ms. Samantha Young, Student Services Advisor syoung@gws.k12.in.us or 317.889.4008 Continue reading

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
Any senior who did not have his/her Senior Picture taken at GHS in June will have another chance -- a final chance -- in early August. Seniors who did not pose should receive after-school appointment cards soon directly from Prestige Portraits. Once school begins, any senior who has not received an appointment card can contact Ms. Roberts in Room K105 (317/889-4000) for information.

Remember, you do not have to buy anything from Prestige Portraits, but you do have to pose for your yearbook senior picture through them.
