Juniors-SAT Pre-administration

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
Parents of Juniors:

On March 2nd, your student will participate in SAT testing.  SAT has replaced ISTEP as the graduation exam for your student.  The change to the SAT presents your student with the unique opportunity to share their scores with four universities for free while also completing a graduation requirement.  Additional information, test-taking advice and tips along with practice questions will be sent home with your junior on Monday.

Students will have the opportunity to send their SAT scores to up to four universities for free.  This free opportunity occurs once during the pre-administration session (on Wednesday, February 16th).  We would highly recommend that you and your student discuss if they would like to share his/her score with a university.  If a student chooses not to share his/her scores during the pre-administration window he/she will NOT be able to go back and add a university at a later time for free.  We would also recommend that during the pre-administration process students be able to share a personal or family email address.  Once a student graduates, his/her Greenwood email address is no longer active and that may impact your student’s ability to access their College Board account.  Also, there is an optional questionnaire to answer questions about yourself, your educational experience, and your plans for after you graduate high school.  We would recommend again that you speak with your junior about whether you desire to complete this questionnaire and opt in to the student search service which connects students with information about colleges, universities, and scholarship opportunities.

Sophomores and Juniors will be the only students at GHS on Wednesday, March 2nd.  Sophomores will take the ASVAB, while Juniors take the SAT.  We recognize that your junior student may want to leave once they have completed the SAT.  Should your student choose to leave, please be aware that students will not be released from testing until the SAT is complete which will be around 11:45 (without accommodations) and closer to 1 pm (with accommodations).

On the testing day, please have your student to school on time as testing begins promptly at 7:30 am on March 2nd.  Students will need a fully charged school issued Chromebook to complete their SAT.  If a student has been using his/her own device, the school will provide a Chromebook to use. ASVAB/SAT Day-March 2nd

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
Good afternoon. GHS will have an ASVAB & SAT Day on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. This practice impacts each of the grades in the following way:

9th Grade: E-learning-9th grade students do not report to GHS.
10th Grade: All 10th Grade students will take the ASVAB on this day. This test helps provide students information on strengths and weaknesses and potential careers they may want to consider pursuing. Students can also satisfy one part of their graduation requirements with an appropriate score. We anticipate 10th grade students finishing around 11 am (no accommodations) and around 11:30 am (with accommodations). Students may leave at this time or wait for the buses which we anticipate leaving at approximately 1:15 pm.
11th Grade. All 11th Grade students will take the SAT on this day. The SAT has become the new Indiana School Accountability Exam and can satisfy one part of the graduation requirements with an appropriate score. We anticipate 11th grade students finishing around 11:45 am (no accommodations) and around 1 pm (with accommodations). Students may leave at this time or wait for the buses which we anticipate leaving at approximately 1:15 pm.
12th Grade: E-learning-12th grade students do not report to GHS.
More information will be provided as we get closer to this date, but we wanted to make you aware early so you can make the necessary arrangements. Continue reading

GHS Dress Code Reminders

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
GHS students and parents:
Good afternoon. From time to time, our school needs to address specific policy issues, similar to many business environments. This email is a gentle reminder to ensure all students are following our dress code policy, which is located in our student handbook, pages 21-22. As we begin a new semester, now is a good time to make improvements. To assist you in better understanding our concerns, here are some of the most common dress code violations. Hoods, beanies, bandanas, and baseball (all) hats are not permitted. Holes in jeans are not permitted. Slight rips are fine, but larger holes above the knees are a violation. Pajamas, house slippers, and blankets are not permitted. Dresses, skirts and shorts must be knee length. Boys in particular are wearing gym shorts considered too short. In general, all clothing must cover all skin from shoulders to knees when standing or bending.
*If you’ve worn clothing in the past that violates our dress code, please do not wear those items to school in the future. Beginning this semester, we will reinstate our after-school detention program for dress code and other violations. After-school detention will take place from 2:30-3:30 in the HS cafeteria. We will share this information with our students as well. For the vast majority of you, there will be no need to make changes in your day. Thank you for continuing to follow our handbook. For those students who knowingly violate the handbook, please note your behavior will be addressed accordingly. Thank you for your understanding and enjoy your weekend. Continue reading
