Gingerbread Man Day!

After reading over a dozen different gingerbread man books this week, Ms. Ham's kindergarten class went on a gingerbread man hunt. Life can get busy and we cannot always make it to the library to check out new books to read. Don't worry, Southwest has you covered. We now have a great resource to help develop important reading and comprehension skills. There are books that students can take AR quzzes at school, books that can be read to your child, with your child, or read independently!

It’s official – we now have Tumblebooks until September 2016!  Students can use it at home, day or night, 365 days a year (yes – even during Summer Vacation!)

Greenwood Education Foundation Movie Night!

The Greenwood Education Foundation is putting on a FREE Movie night on Saturday, October 10. The event will be from 5:30 to 10:00 at the Greenwood Middle School football field. We will be showing The Sandlot.

You will be able to purchade tickets for inflatables (Bouce House with slide and Basketball Hoop & AWESOME Obstacle Course!) and airbrush face painting!

Food will also be available for purchase:

Popcorn and Beverages

Bring Your Own Blankets & Chairs!

International Day of Peace

Everyone at Southwest participated in different actictivies to celebrate International Day of Peace. The students and staff created the word peace with their bodies, sang songs about peace, and learned what peace means. A big shout out to Mrs. Cain, Mr. Corbin, Mrs. Billingsly, and Ms. Wehlacz for coordinating these special activities and helping making this a memorable day to learn about peace! Continue reading

Ms. Ham's Kindergarten Class

Every week in Ms. Ham's kindergarten class students participate in mystery sack. This week the letter is F. Students bring a secret object that begins with the letter of the week. The rest of the class has to guess what the object is based on the clues that are given by the student. Today the class guessed: fire fighter outfit, football, finger flashlight, frog, fox, fish and frisbee. This kindergarten class sure has a great time learning letter sounds! Continue reading

Completing STEM Activities
