Early Dismissal from GHS 8/4, 8/6, 8/7

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
It’s come to our attention two major traffic headaches in Greenwood may reopen this weekend. If so, this should alleviate our problem of late busses as we’ve experienced the last three school days. However, until then we need to make some adjustments to allow middle and elementary routes to be on schedule. Apparently middle school and especially elementary routes are running late due to heavy traffic.

So, the high school will dismiss this Tuesday (tomorrow), Thursday, and Friday at 2:20pm. This is only for this week. We will not dismiss earlier than our normal 2pm time on Wednesday due to the 6-hour seat requirement by the IDOE.

Hopefully the extra 10 minutes will allow busses to get to MS and elementary routes in sufficient time. Again, we will dismiss early this Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 2:20pm. Thanks for your understanding.

GreenMachine Robotics Team

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
WAY back in September, we started a Robotics team at Greenwood. We've come a long way since then! In our rookie season. GMJr. won the "Rookie Sensation" award at their first meet, and GMSr. won the "Motivate Award" AND "Finalist Alliance RunnerUp" at the 2nd meet. We won the Compass Award, an award for a video explaining the importance of a coach, with Mr. Campbell as the subject. (The video was made by Michelle Kaufman). Michael Tam won the Dean's List Award, a very prestigious award. These honors were both from the Indiana State Finals Meet. More than that, we all learned many lessons about working together as a team....and some engineering skills. We met MANY wonderful people from other Robotics teams, and REAL engineers and professionals in the work force. Thanks to the team coach, Chris Campbell, the guest coach, Mr. Snodgrass from Center Grove, mentor, Tami Vest, and all of the other mentors and parents that helped in our rookie season. The team also provided a much needed hands-on involvement in the STEM areas. We would love to see this just be the beginning for our Greenwood Machine Team. For more information about the Robotics team visit:  http://greenwoodrobotics.com/ Continue reading

Suspicious bus stop behavior

Posted by on in Greenwood High School News
On September 5, 2014 Greenwood Police received reports of a man trying to lure children into

his vehicle while they were waiting for their bus at a bus stop. This occurred in the area of the

Summerfield Village neighborhood near Worthsville Road just west of US 31. The man was

described as an older white male and was seen driving an older light blue Chevy Camaro.

Greenwood officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The police

officers identified the subject and questioned the man concerning the reported behavior.

During questioning, the man stated that he didn’t know it was illegal to stop and talk with the

children. The officers explained that the circumstances were inappropriate at the least and he

was told to stay away from the bus stops in the future.

The Greenwood Police Department is actively investigating this incident and, if deemed

appropriate, will request criminal charges from the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office. Our

officers will be conducting extra patrols of area bus stops for the next few weeks. Whiteland,

Greenwood and Center Grove schools have been notified and are taking appropriate actions. A

picture is attached of the vehicle.

No arrest has been made at this time. This notice is to make the public aware of this incident

and to have the children be aware of their surroundings when waiting for their buses. Citizens

are urged to call 911 to report any suspicious persons at or near bus stops. Continue reading
